TXIB (Trimethyl Pentanol Diisobutyrate, CAS 6846‑50‑6) is a low‑VOC synthetic ester coalescent and viscosity modifier. It features mild solvating capacity for polymer resins. This product can reduce plastisol viscosity for PVC formulations and act as an efficient film‑forming aid in low‑VOC waterborne coating systems. It is suitable for PVC plastisol adjustment and water‑based architectural and industrial coating production.
Product DetailsTXIB is a clear, colorless low‑viscosity oily liquid with mild ester odor. Its branched aliphatic ester molecular structure delivers moderate solvency toward polymer particles. In PVC plastisol systems, TXIB works as a viscosity depressant. It reduces initial plastisol viscosity without causing excessive softening of the final cured PVC product, improving flow and leveling during casting, spreading and dip‑coating operations. It helps extend the usable working time of freshly mixed PVC plastisol.
Within waterborne coating formulations, TXIB serves as a film‑forming coalescent. It temporarily softens dispersed latex polymer particles during drying. This allows polymer particles to fuse tightly together and form a continuous, uniform coating film at relatively lower baking or ambient drying temperature. Thanks to its low‑VOC property, it supports the formulation of environmentally compliant water‑based coatings.
TXIB cannot completely replace primary plasticizers for PVC. Over‑dosage will negatively affect hardness, surface tack and heat‑resistance of finished PVC goods. In waterborne coatings, formulators need to optimize the loading amount together with other coalescents to avoid influencing coating gloss, drying speed and anti‑blocking performance.
For feeding procedures, TXIB can be blended into PVC plastisol under low‑speed mixing to prevent excessive shear heating. For waterborne coatings, gradual addition under agitation is recommended. Store in tightly sealed drums in cool, dry and ventilated warehouse. Keep away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Wear suitable protective gloves and safety goggles during material transfer. Prevent liquid leakage.
