Surface Modified Montmorillonite CAS 1318-93-0 is organically modified layered silicate nanoclay manufactured via cation exchange modification of natural montmorillonite.
Raw sodium montmorillonite is hydrophilic and poorly compatible with epoxy resin. After surface organic modification, the material turns organophilic, greatly improving interfacial affinity with various epoxy systems. Under sufficient stirring, ultrasonic treatment or heating, stacked silicate sheets can be exfoliated into nanoscale lamellae and uniformly dispersed inside epoxy matrix. The layered structure hinders crack propagation to achieve remarkable toughening effect. Meanwhile, it serves as an efficient flame retardant synergist.
