SBS is styrene-butadiene-styrene thermoplastic styrenic block copolymer, supplied as free-flowing pellets or crumb. Its molecular structure consists of hard polystyrene end blocks and flexible polybutadiene midblocks. This two-phase structure provides rubber-like elasticity at ambient temperature and thermoplastic melt processability upon heating. SBS enhances elasticity, tensile strength and low-temperature flexibility when blended into asphalt, adhesives and shoe rubber formulations. It is a c
Product Detail PageChemical IdentitySBS is linear triblock copolymer synthesized by anionic polymerization. The rigid polystyrene domains act as physical crosslinking points, while the polybutadiene middle segments offer elastic properties. It is thermoplastic and can be repeatedly melted and processed without vulcanization. SBS shows good compatibility with asphalt, tackifying resins, oils and rubber fillers. It maintains stable performance under standard processing temperatures for bitumen modification, adhesive extrusion and rubber compound mixing.
Key PerformanceSBS improves low-temperature crack resistance and high-temperature rutting resistance of modified asphalt. It delivers excellent elasticity, tensile strength and wear resistance for shoe rubber. In adhesive systems, it boosts peel strength and tack property. It has good solubility in hydrocarbon oils and solvents, easy for formulation processing. It does not require vulcanization, simplifying production workflow. It balances softness and mechanical strength for multi-industry applications.
ApplicationsSBS is primarily used for asphalt modification for road paving and waterproof membrane. It is also applied in pressure-sensitive adhesives, construction sealants, shoe sole rubber and plastic modification. Typical end products include modified bitumen, waterproof rolls, footwear soles, industrial adhesives and rubber accessories. It is suitable for formulations requiring high elasticity and simple thermoplastic processing.
Storage & HandlingStore SBS pellets or crumbs in sealed original bags inside cool, dry and ventilated warehouse. Recommended storage temperature 10-30℃. Avoid direct sunlight, heat sources and high humidity. Prevent static during material transfer. Once packaging bag is opened, reseal promptly to avoid moisture and dust contamination. Do not stack pallets excessively high to prevent pellet compression and caking.
