Lithium Magnesium Silicate Thixotropic Agent, semi‑transparent synthetic hectorite, CAS 67142‑95‑4. It is produced by hydrothermal synthesis, filtration treatment and spray‑drying. After adequate hydration in aqueous media, silicate nanosheets exfoliate and build a reversible three‑dimensional colloidal network. This inorganic thixotropic thickener is applied for latex paint, water‑based adhesive and sealant systems, improving suspension stability, vertical anti‑sagging property and construction

Product Detail PageLithium Magnesium Silicate Thixotropic Agent Semi‑Transparent CAS 67142‑95‑4, Suspending Thickener for Latex Paint Adhesive & SealantThis semi‑transparent lithium magnesium silicate thixotropic agent is a synthetic hectorite manufactured via hydrothermal crystallization of inorganic mineral precursors, followed by filtration, desalting treatment and spray‑drying. Compared with high‑transparency cosmetic grades, this product contains a controlled minor amount of micro‑impurities, resulting in semi‑transparent aqueous gel after full hydration. It maintains consistent crystal platelet size and stable hydration performance across production batches, well suited for construction‑grade water‑based formulations where complete optical clarity is not required.

When dispersed into aqueous systems under high‑speed stirring, the white free‑flowing powder hydrates and exfoliates into thin silicate nanosheets. These nanosheets interconnect to construct a reversible colloidal network inside the liquid phase. Under static storage, the network raises static viscosity, effectively suspending pigments, mineral extenders and functional fillers within latex paint, water‑based adhesive and aqueous sealant, preventing hard sedimentation and bottom caking inside storage drums. When subjected to shear force during brushing, roller coating, extrusion or dispensing, the colloidal network is disrupted, and dynamic viscosity decreases rapidly. This characteristic improves fluidity during construction and facilitates spreading of latex paint as well as smooth extrusion of water‑based sealant. Once external shear is eliminated, the gel‑network reconstructs quickly to deliver excellent anti‑sagging performance on vertical building substrates, avoiding paint running or sealant slumping after application.

This synthetic hectorite shows good compatibility with acrylic latex, styrene‑acrylic emulsion, polyvinyl‑acetate emulsions and most common water‑borne adhesive resin systems. It can be compounded with cellulosic thickeners, associative polyurethane thickeners to fine‑tune thixotropic profiles for targeted formulation requirements. The resulting aqueous gel exhibits semi‑transparent appearance; hence this grade is not recommended for high‑clarity cosmetic or optical gel applications. It is optimized for interior and exterior latex paint, water‑based construction adhesive and water‑borne joint sealant.

For processing, high‑speed dispersion and sufficient pre‑hydration are required before mixing with emulsion resins. High electrolyte concentration should be avoided in the formula. Excessive salt ions will suppress nanosheet exfoliation, weaken thixotropic strength and further increase system turbidity, which negatively influences the surface quality of finished coatings and sealants.

The thixotropic agent must be stored in hermetically sealed dry packaging. Moisture absorption causes powder caking, which leads to incomplete hydration and loss of thixotropic efficiency. During batching and material transfer, cross‑contamination with high‑transparency cosmetic‑grade or heavy‑duty turbid industrial‑grade synthetic hectorite must be strictly prevented. Mixed impurities would bring abnormal rheological fluctuation and undesirable surface defects on painted or sealed building substrates. This semi‑transparent lithium magnesium silicate thixotropic agent is a reliable inorganic suspending‑thickening additive for latex paint, water‑based adhesive and construction sealant.
