Synthetic Hectorite Powder Turbid CAS 67142-95-4, Lithium Magnesium Silicate Suspending Agent for Drilling Fluid & Foundry Coating

Synthetic Hectorite Powder Turbid, lithium magnesium silicate, CAS 67142‑95‑4. It is produced by hydrothermal synthesis, basic purification and spray‑drying. After dispersion and hydration in aqueous medium, layered silicate exfoliates into nanosheets to build robust reversible thixotropic colloidal networks. This heavy‑duty industrial suspending additive is specially formulated for water‑based drilling fluid and water‑based foundry coating, controlling slurry viscosity, reducing solid sedimenta

Product Detail PageSynthetic Hectorite Powder Turbid CAS 67142‑95‑4, Lithium Magnesium Silicate Suspending Agent for Drilling Fluid & Foundry CoatingThis turbid‑grade synthetic hectorite powder is manufactured through hydrothermal crystallization of inorganic raw materials, coarse impurity removal filtration and spray‑drying. Compared with cosmetic and coating high‑clarity grades, this industrial turbid grade contains a higher level of acceptable trace micro‑impurities. The hydrated aqueous slurry presents distinct turbid appearance. It features stable platelet structure and consistent gelling strength across different production batches, which satisfies the cost‑effective requirements of heavy‑duty industrial slurries without transparency demands.

When dispersed into water under high‑speed agitation, the white free‑flowing powder hydrates gradually and exfoliates into thin silicate nanosheets. These nanosheets interconnect and construct a three‑dimensional reversible colloidal network inside the aqueous slurry. Under static conditions, the network increases static viscosity of the system. In water‑based drilling fluid, it suspends heavy barite weighting agents and drilled rock cuttings, slowing down rapid particle sedimentation during static well‑shut‑in periods. For water‑based foundry coating, the colloidal network holds refractory ceramic powders and graphite solids in stable suspension, preventing hard sediment cake at the bottom of storage tanks and buckets.

When strong mechanical shear is applied by pumping, circulating, stirring or brush coating, the formed colloidal network breaks down, and slurry dynamic viscosity decreases sharply. This shear‑thinning behavior improves the pumping circulation property of drilling mud during well drilling operations. For foundry coating, lower dynamic viscosity facilitates brushing, flow‑coating and dipping on mould surfaces. Once shear force is eliminated, the gel‑network rebuilds rapidly, providing outstanding anti‑sagging performance on vertical mould surfaces, so the refractory coating can form uniform dense protective layers before drying.

This turbid synthetic hectorite demonstrates good compatibility with common auxiliary additives used in water‑based drilling mud and foundry coating, including dispersants, defoamers and water‑based binders. It can be compounded with other organic or inorganic thickeners to adjust the final thixotropic curve of industrial slurries. Due to its inherent turbid slurry property, this grade is not suitable for cosmetic, personal‑care or high‑transparency coating applications.

During practical formulation processing, sufficient high‑speed pre‑hydration is required prior to mixing with refractory powders, weighting agents and other slurry components. Extreme high‑salinity environments should be avoided as excessive electrolyte ions will restrain nanosheet exfoliation, reduce gel‑building capacity and weaken the overall suspension‑stabilizing performance for drilling fluid and foundry coating.

The turbid synthetic hectorite powder must be stored in hermetically sealed dry packaging. Moisture absorption will result in powder caking, which causes incomplete hydration and obvious loss of thixotropic and suspending efficiency. During material weighing, transportation and batching workflows, cross‑contamination with high‑transparency cosmetic‑grade synthetic hectorite must be strictly prevented, which would bring unexpected rheological deviation for industrial slurries. This turbid synthetic hectorite serves as a robust inorganic suspending and rheology‑modifying agent for water‑based drilling fluid and foundry refractory coating
