Product Description

JSY‑RD magnesium lithium silicate, also known as synthetic hectorite, is artificial trioctahedral smectite layered silicate with CAS No.37220‑90‑9 and EC No.253‑448‑5. Its crystal structure consists of two silica tetrahedral sheets sandwiching one magnesia octahedral sheet with partial magnesium ions isomorphously replaced by lithium ions. The raw material is free‑flowing white powder made of nano‑sized irregular platelet particles around 20‑50 nm in diameter and 1 nm in thickness.

When dispersed into deionized water, nano‑platelets hydrate and swell quickly. Electrostatic attraction between platelet surfaces and edges assembles the unique house‑of‑cards spatial network. This microstructure delivers strong thickening, suspension and shear‑thinning thixotropy without introducing turbidity. At 2% concentration, it can form colorless and highly thixotropic transparent gel.

Tailored for clear varnish and personal‑care markets, JSY‑RD acts as thixotropic agent, thickener and suspension stabilizer. For clear varnish systems, it prevents pigment settling and coating sagging while preserving high gloss and transparency of paint film. For personal‑care formulations, it stabilizes functional actives, improves product texture and delivers refreshing non‑sticky skin sensory experience.

Application Benefits for Target Systems

For clear waterborne varnish: JSY‑RD builds stable three‑dimensional network under static condition to restrain pigment and filler sedimentation and avoid sagging on vertical surfaces. Under shear force during spraying or brushing, viscosity drops rapidly to realize good leveling property. It will not produce haze or yellowing effect, retaining high gloss and crystal clarity of clear varnish films.

For personal‑care formulations including facial masks, essences, sunscreens, shampoos and transparent care gels: JSY‑RD suspends insoluble UV filters, plant actives and fine particles effectively, preventing phase separation during shelf storage. It modifies product rheology to achieve smooth texture and light non‑greasy skin feel. It can be compounded with organic cosmetic thickeners to gain synergistic thickening effect.

Besides core applications above, JSY‑RD can also be extended to other transparent water‑based industrial systems that demand thixotropy and high clarity.

Recommended Usage

Pre‑gel method is strongly recommended. Slowly sprinkle JSY‑RD powder into deionized water under high‑speed stirring of 800‑1500 rpm. Prepare pre‑gel with solid content of 2‑5%. Keep stirring for 20‑30 minutes until full dispersion. Complete hydration by standing over 4 hours at room temperature or heating in 50℃ warm water for 5‑10 minutes. Add the ready‑made transparent pre‑gel into varnish or cosmetic production batches in subsequent procedures.

Direct addition method is optional. Disperse dry JSY‑RD powder in water under high‑shear condition before adding other formula raw materials. Add remaining ingredients only after full hydration is achieved.

Typical dosage ranges from 0.1%‑3.0% calculated on total formulation weight. Exact addition level needs lab confirmation according to target viscosity, thixotropy requirement and system characteristics.

It works stably within pH 5.5‑13. Do not apply in strong acidic environment below pH 5. Avoid direct mixing with strong cationic raw materials. Compound usage with organic thickeners can realize synergistic thickening and reduce total additive dosage.

Packaging, Storage & Shelf‑life

Available packages include 10 kg inner PE film bag with outer paper‑plastic composite bag, or 25 kg fiber drum. Custom packaging solutions are acceptable upon request.

Store in dry, cool and well‑ventilated warehouse. Keep packages tightly sealed to avoid moisture absorption and powder caking.

Shelf life is 24 months under original sealed and dry storage conditions.

This product belongs to non‑dangerous goods. Transport as ordinary chemical goods, protect packages from rain damage and physical breakage in transit.
