Each microsphere features a tough thermoplastic copolymer shell encapsulating low-boiling hydrocarbon liquid inside. When exposed to proper heat during extrusion or injection molding, the internal hydrocarbon vaporizes, pressure rises, and the polymer shell expands to form fine independent closed-cell foam inside thermoplastic matrix.
